        Question:

How do I bail someone out of jail in Virginia?

        Answer:

If you or a loved one has been arrested on a criminal matter and are being held on bail or what is known as a bond, you’re probably wondering how you can get out of jail by posting that bail or bond. There are a couple of ways to handle that. The most common way is to reach out to what’s called a bondsman; in most situations, you will pay that bondsman 10% of whatever your bail or bond is. They will pay the rest of the money and then you will be released. Let’s say they set a $1,000 bond for you. You would call a bondsman. You would typically pay them 10% of that or $100. Then the bondsman would post the remaining $900. Then you would be released.

Now, there is also a situation where you can post the bond yourself. Let’s use that same example. Let’s say that they set a $1,000 bond. You can pay that $1,000. You’d be released. Then upon your release as long as you make all of your court appearances, when your case is finalized, you’ll actually get the $1,000 back in that situation. If you get a bondsman, you do not get any of that money returned to you. If you post the bond yourself, however, you will get reimbursed the $1,000, in this example, once your case is over with. If you have any other questions about bail, bond, or anything in relation to the criminal justice system in Virginia, feel free to give us a call so that we can see what we can do to help you.

        stars

“I had a minor but bothersome issue on a litigation, and Nova Legal Group were extremely efficient, very effective and I am 100% pleased with the results they drove, and I am also quite impressed they managed to do my work and obtain the favorable resolution ahead of schedule during the year of COVID. And I think their fee structure is easy to work with and very reasonable.”
